Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 July condemned the attack in Munich and expressed his prayers and solidarity with the families of the victims.

"We are appalled by the horrific incident in Munich. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and those injured," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

Nine people were killed and 21 injured when a gunman went on a shooting rampage in a mall in Munich, in Germany on 22 July.

Munich went into lockdown after the teenager opened fire on diners at a McDonald's restaurant before moving to a nearby shopping mall. The video apparently shot outside the restaurant showed passersby fleeing in terror as a gunman with a pistol surveyed the street before calmly and indiscriminately opening fire.

The gunman killed himself after the rampage.
