Chinese have celebrated their New Year on 5th February every year. The country has been celebrating the New Year for more than 4,000 years and this special day is considered a public holiday in China.


This special occasion has been celebrated by millions of people around the world as it is the most significant holiday of the Chinese calendar. People in China welcomes their new year with huge displays of fireworks and firecrackers likewise the celebrations in other countries.

However, English is a common language and one can simply say a very Happy New Year phrase. But, if you wanted to wish in a different style then you can in the given below way:
新年快乐 (xīn nián kuài lè)

On the other hand, the Chinese language has many dialects like Mandarin, Beijing dialect, Cantonese, Shanghainese and many other minority languages.

However, Mandarin is the most common dialect and often uses the phrase “Happy Spring Festival” when celebrating the Chinese New Year.

  • In Mandarin, New Year written as 春节快乐 and pronounced “chūn jiē kuài lè”.
  • In Cantonese the same phrase is pronounced “ceon1 zit3 faai3 lok6”.
  • Also say 春节愉快 (chūn jiē yú kuài), which uses a more formal way to say “happy”.
