One woman was killed and several others wounded in an active shooting in Texas on 31 July.

Austin police reported that there were "separate shootings in the same area".

"Active shooter incident downtown, multiple victims. Stay away from downtown," Austin police said in a message on Twitter on Sunday.

The police said that the shooting occurred just before 3am.

The police did not confirm the number of gunmen or the exact location of the shooting.

Police said that they have secured the area, but warned people to stay away from downtown. KXAN, a local news station, quoted paramedics in the area as saying victims were "spread across the area", adding that emergency services were responding in the area of 208 East 6th Street.

Details awaited.
