Three Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and five others wounded in clashes with the Taliban in northern Sar-e-Pul province on Monday.

According to a spokesman for 209 Shaheen Army Corps, Mohammad Hanif Rezayee, the clashes took place after the Taliban attacked security check posts in Qaflatoon village, Sar-e-Pul city and opened fire on security forces.

"The Taliban has also suffered casualties but there is no exact information about their casualties yet," Tolo News quoted Rezayee as saying.

There is a report of the security forces having suffered heavy casualties.

Also, a number of villages in the provincial center are believed to have fallen to the Taliban.
The Taliban on June 9 announced a three-day ceasefire over the Eid holiday, two days after the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani announced the ceasefire from the 27th of Ramzan (June 12) to the fifth day of Eid-ul-Fitr (June 19).

It is the first time the Taliban has agreed to a ceasefire for Eid since the US invasion in 2001.
