World number six Naomi Osaka stormed into the quarter-final of the ongoing China Open after defeating Julia Gorges of Germany in straight sets in the pre-quarter-finals of the tournament here on Thursday.
The 20-year-old thrashed her German opponent 6-1, 6-2 in the last -16 clash to continue with her dominating performance in the tournament so far.
Making a slow start to the first set, Osaka endured five deuces and saved one break point in the first game. She, however, came back strongly and clinched the next five games to win the opening set.
The recently-crowned US Open champion maintained the momentum in the second set as well as she started off by winning four consecutive points in the first game. Without making much sweat, she registered an easy 6-2 win to advance further in the tournament.
Osaka will now take on Zhang Shuai of China to book her spot in the semi-final of the China Open.
