Somdev Devvarman pulled off a major upset at the RK Khanna Stadium in Delhi on Friday, 18 September, by defeating World no 40 Jiri Vesely in straight sets as India levelled the scores at 1-1 against the world's top team Czech Republic in the Davis Cup World Group play-off tie.

Devvarman claimed a 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-3 win over 40th ranked Vesely in the second rubber contest that lasted two hours and 43 minutes.

The 164th ranked Indian smashed 20 aces and 65 winners to prevail over the Czech and restore parity for his side in a five-match overall contest.

India will hope to take a 2-1 lead when the pair of Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes will take on Czech duo of Adam Pavlasek and Radek Stepanek in the third rubber on Saturday.
