Aamir Khan's bad luck continues. After Incredible India, now Snapdeal drops actor as brand ambassador

Online retail giant Snapdeal has dropped Aamir Khan as its brand ambassador. The announcement has triggered speculation that the move had been influenced by the actor's controversial statements regarding growing intolerance in the country in November 2015.

Aamir Khan was the face of Snapdeal's 'Dil Ki Deal' print, online and TV advertisements. While the e-retail giant's one-year endorsement contract with Aamir Khan expires later this month, a report in Economic Times says that Snapdeal had an option to extend the contract for another year.

Aamir Khan's remarks on 'intolerance' continue to haunt him

Khan courted massive controversy in November last year when he revealed that his family had contemplated leaving India in the wake of a number of violent incidents - including the mob lynching of a Muslim man in Dadri on charges of beef consumption and the burning alive of two Dalit children.

Snapdeal had then distanced itself from the row. In a public statement, the company said:

"Snapdeal is neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity. Snapdeal is a proud Indian company built by passionate young Indians focused on building an inclusive digital India."

This is the second endorsement that Aamir has lost. Earlier, the Tourism Ministry removed him as the brand ambassador of the Incredible India campaign. The actor has been associated with the campaign since 2009. Actors Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra have since replaced Aamir Khan as the new faces for the Incredible India campaign.
