World T20: Shahid Afridi set to lose captaincy after tournament

Speed News Desk | Updated on: 14 February 2017, 6:00 IST

Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi is likely to lose his T20 captaincy after the completion of the ongoing World T20 in India, reports in Pakistan have suggested.

The news comes following the country's six-wicket defeat to India in the Super 10 stage of the tournament on Saturday, 19 March. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan criticised Afridi following the loss, saying the board would look for a new skipper after the tournament.

Afridi has recently come under the scanner for his struggles with the bat, as well as for Pakistan's poor run of form in cricket's shortest format.

Against India, Afridi scored a mere eight runs from 14 balls, and also failed to pick up any wicket.

Pakistan will next face an in-form New Zealand in Mohali on Tuesday, 22 March.
