Rio Olympics 2016: PR Sreejesh, Sushila Chanu named captains of Indian hockey teams

Hockey India has announced the names of India's 16-member squad for the Rio Olympics.

PR Sreejesh has been named the captain of the men's squad while Sushila Chanu will captain the women's side, Hockey India president Narinder Batra announced on 12 July.

Deepika was named the vice-captain to Sushila Chanu after Ritu Rani left the preparatory camp owing to underperformance.

In the men's side, PR Sreejesh and SV Sunil have been named captain and vice-captain respectively, after Sardar Singh relinquished his role.

In a huge blow to the men's side, Birendra Lakra will miss the summer game due to an injury.

The men's team has been placed in Group B with Argentina, Canada, Germany, Ireland and Netherlands.

The women's team has also been placed in Group B with Argentina, Australia, Great Britain, Japan and United States.

Savita (GK), Navjot Kaur (midfielder), Deep Grace Ekka (defender), Monika (midfielder), Anuradha Devi (forward), Poonam Rani (forward), Vandana Kataria (forward), Deepika (defender), Namita Toppo (defender), Renuka Yadav (midfielder), Sunita Lakra (defender), Sushila Chanu (defender), Rani Rampal (forward), Preeti Dubey (forward), Lilima Minz (midfielder), Nikki Pradhan (forward).

On standby: Rajani Etimarpu and H Lalruat Feli

Men's squad Harmanpreet Singh, Rupinder Pal Singh, Kothajit Singh, Surender Kumar, Manpreet, Sardar Singh, VR Raghunath, SK Uthappa, PR Sreejesh, Danish Mujtaba, Devender Walmiki, SV Sunil, Akashdeep Singh, Chinglensana Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Nikkin Thimmaiah.
