Mohanlal: Indian actor with maximum National Film Awards

The names of winners of 64th National Film Awards were announced on Friday. Though the fans of Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar are still celebrating over their actor's first Best actor award recognition for his portrayal of Navy Officer Rustom Pavri in 2016 courtroom drama Rustom, for the fans of Malayalam actor Mohanlal have double reasons to celebrate.

Mohanlal has received his fifth national award on Friday for his performances in Telugu film Janatha Garage and Malayalam films Pulimurugan and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol.

In Janatha Garage Mohanlal was seen as a vehicle workshop owner Sathyam while in Pulimurugan, Mohanlal portrayed the titular role of hunter Murugan. In Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Lalettan essayed the role of a 50 plus old family man Ulahannan.

And with yesterday's National Film Awards announcement, the Malayalam superstar has emerged as the first Indian actor with maximum national awards recognition. Mohanlal surpassed the four-national awards records set by legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan (Bollywood) and Kamal Haasan (Tamil).

Mohanlal's previous national award winning films include Kireedam, Bharatham and Vanaprastham.
