Mohanlal starrer 1971 Beyond Borders released today. Directed by Major Ravi and produced by Haneef Mohammed, the war-drama stars the Malayalam actor in dual roles. 1971 Beyond Borders stars Asha Sarath in the female lead and marks the Malayalam debut of Telugu actor Allu Sirish and Bollywood actor Arunodhay Singh.

Even though 1971 Beyond Borders is Lalettan's seventh release in eight months, his over exposure has not affected the opening collection of his film.

1971 Beyond Borders has taken a good start at the Kerala Box Office. The first shows were started at morning 9:00 AM with housefull shows across the Kerala. The film has released on 405 screens in India with 193 screens alone in Kerala. The ongoing strike in Allapuzha district might affect the film's total collection to some extent. The film has been praised for Mohanlal's acting in dual roles, as Major Sahadevan and Major Mahadevan and cinematography from Sujith Vaassudev of Drishyam fame.

1971 Beyond Borders marks the fifth collaboration between Mohanlal and Major Ravi after Keerthichakra, Kurukshetra, Kandahar and Karmayodha.
