Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan lauded legendary Tamil actor Kamal Haasan for being chosen for the prestigious French honour, the Chevalier award.

Earlier, Catch had reported that the four-time-National-Award-winner was selected as the second Tamil actor after the late Sivaji Ganeshan to be nominated for the French honour.

In an open letter to media, the Kerala CM stated that Kamal Haasan had succeeded in elevating the glory of Indian cinema to new levels through this honour. He also added that he showed his humbleness by dedicating the award to his well-wishers.

Pinarayi Vijayan was quoted as saying;

"Kamal Haasan had succeeded in elevating the glory of Indian cinema to new levels through this prestigious French honour, the Chevalier award. His award has dignified Indian cinema in the world. By dedicating this award to his fans, he showed his humbleness. I congratulate Kamal Haasan on behalf of all Keralites."

Kamal Haasan is now the seventh Indian to receive this prestigious honour after film maker Satyajit Ray and actors Sivaji Ganesan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Nandita Das, and Shah Rukh Khan.
