Kabali: Worldwide distribution rights of Rajinikanth film sold for Rs 223 crore

Rajinikanth starrer Kabali has not been released yet, but the film has already emerged a blockbuster for producer Kalaipuli S Thanu. Be it in India or overseas, the distribution rights of the Thalaiva film have been sold for unheard prices. Kabali has managed to create waves in the trade circles. Here's a look at the worldwide area-wise breakup of the pre-release business of Kabali.

Tamil Nadu rights have been sold to Jazz Pictures for a massive Rs 68 crore with Chengalpattu alone contributing Rs 18 crore.

Shanmuga Films has acquired the Andhra Pradesh/Nizam rights for Rs 32 crore, highest ever for a Rajinikanth starrer.

Kerala rights have been bought by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's Maxlab Cinemas and Entertainments and Aashirvad Cinemas for Rs 7.5 crore.

The Karnataka rights have been acquired by Bajrangi Bhaijaan producer, Rockline Venkatesh for Rs 10 crore.

For the North India circuit, Fox Star India purchased the rights for Rs 15.5 crore. Malaysian rights of the film have been sold to Malik Stream Corporation for Rs 10 crore. Cine Galaxy has bagged the USA and Canada rights respectively for Rs 8.5 crore.

The rights of other overseas locations have been sold for Rs. 31.5 crore while Jaya TV and Think Music bought the satellite/music rights for Rs. 40 crore.

Meanwhile, the advance booking of Kabali has opened to an outstanding response across the world. Touted as an action-thriller, Kabali also stars Radhika Apte and Dhansika. The PA Ranjith directed film is scheduled to hit the screens on 22 July.
