Tamil superstar and National Award winning actor Chiyaan Vikram completed 26 years of his acting career on Monday, 17 October. He made his acting debut on 17 October, 1990, with the Tamil film En Kadhal Kanmani. Sadly, the film was a disaster at the Box Office. In fact, most of Chiyaan's initial films failed to set the cash registers ringing.

Interestingly, it was his Malayalam debut film, Dhruvam in 1993, which worked wonders for Vikram. Even though he had played the role of Bhadran, a sidekick to Narasimha Mannadiyar, played by Malayalam superstar Mammootty in the film, the actor won all the accolades for his terrific performance. Soon after the success of Dhruvam, Vikram went on to sign many Malayalam films as supporting actor and all of them have been super-hits at the Box Office. Apart from Dhruvam, the actor's notable works in Malayalam films are Mafia, Sainyam, Indraprastham, and Rajaputhran.

Between 1990 and 1998, Vikram did nearly 20 films, including those in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. But the actor tasted his first blockbuster success as lead hero in 1999 with the Tamil film Sethu. The film was so powerful that it was later remade in Bollywood with Salman Khan, as Tere Naam. Vikram also won his first Tamil State Award for Sethu.

After Sethu, Vikram was unstoppable at the Kollywood Box Office, delivering blockbusters one after another including Dhill, Kasi, Gemini, Dhool and Saamy. And in 2003, Vikram stunned the entire Indian film fraternity with his unmatched performance in Pithamagan. The role of Chithan, a graveyard caretaker, essayed by Vikram helped him overpower Hrithik Roshan's performance in Koi Mil Gaya to bag the Best Actor award at the 51st National Film Awards. After two years, the actor was again in the news for his terrific triple-role in Shankar-blockbusterAnniyan.

Throughout his career, Vikram has always been known for his hard work and dedication. For his 2015 release, I, the actor had to sport four different looks in the film; a man with a 55 kg hunchback, a 70 kg model, a 85 kg body builder and a 110 kg beast. The film went on to do more than Rs 225 crore at the Box Office worldwide. I still holds the record of being the highest non-Malayalam grosser at the Kerala Box Office.

In a career spanning 26 years, Vikram has won 26 Best actor recognitions at various award shows across Tamil Nadu. The actor's recent release, Iru Mugan, which had released last month was also a super hit at the Box Office.
