Senior journalist Rajdeo Ranjan shot dead in Siwan, Bihar

A senior journalist has been shot dead in Siwan, amid reports of jungle raj returning to Bihar.

According to media reports, Rajdeo Ranjan was the Bureau chief of Hindustan, a Hindi daily.

He shot point blank in the head and the neck this evening near Siwan railway stations says an NDTV report.

The Hindustan Times reported that as per police, five motorcycle-borne criminals were waiting for Ranjan, who was walking down the road to his home. He was shot twice They shot him twice - once on the head and other on the neck.

The incident happened even as chief minister Nitish Kumar was grappling with the fallout of tthe Gaya road rage incident involving the son of one of his party's MLC, Manorama Devi.

India has seen a spate of attacks on journalists. According to the World Press Freedom Index nine journalists were killed in India last year. India ranks as low as 133 among 180 in the index.
