In a bid to crack the murder of Bihar journalist Rajdeo Ranjan, the Bihar Police today conducted raids in Siwan jail which were led by District Magistrate Mahendra Kumar and SP Saurav Kumar Shah.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin, who is also lodged in the same jail, is under the police radar. Shahabuddin's cell was also searched during the police raid.

According to Pradesh18 report, four visitors of Shahabuddin were detained. Two knives and eight mobile phones were also recovered during the raids.

Rajdeo Ranjan, a journalist with a Hindi daily, was shot dead last Friday night.

Meanwhile, Bihar Director General of Police PK Thakur said that police have identified the gunmen involved in the killing of the journalist.

It is being alleged that Shahabuddin is responsible for Ranjan's murder, as he had reportedly 'leaked' the former MP's pictures in which he is seen feasting inside the jail, along with Bihar minister Abdul Ghafoor in March.

Police have already arrested Upender Singh, an aide of Shahabuddin, and are likely to take him on remand to quiz him in connection with the killing.

Five police teams have been constituted to investigate the case with each team working on different angles. The state government has constituted a special investigation team of two DSPs, three inspectors and five sub-inspectors to trace the killers.
