Olympic gold medallist sprinter Elaine Thompson-Herah was blocked by Instagram for sharing videos of her race on the platform.
She had shared videos from her 100 metre and 200 metre races on her Instagram account. This amounted to copyright violations as content from the games can be shared by the broadcasters who hold the rights.
After a few hours, her access to the Instagram app was reinstated.
As per the International Olympic Committee (IOC) guidelines, athletes must not post Olympic Games content containing audio and video of the sporting event or medal ceremony.
A set number of broadcasters hold exclusive rights to broadcast the Games. Their rights include distribution on social media.
