South Asian Games 2016: India ends campaign with record medal haul

India ended its campaign at the 12th South Asian Games in Guwahati and Shilong with a record medal haul at the event.

The Indian contingent bagged a total of 308 medals, including 188 gold medals, to comfortably finish at the top of the medals tally.

Among the winners on Tuesday, 16 February, were boxers MC Mary Kom, Pooja Rani, and L Sarita Devi, who clinched the gold medals in their respective weight categories.

With these wins, India made a clean sweep in boxing, winning all the 10 gold medals on offer across both genders.

Sri Lanka finished second in the standings with 25 golds and 186 medals in total while Pakistan ended its campaign at third place with 12 golds and a medal count of 106.

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal finished at fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively, while Maldives and Bhutan occupied the last two spots at the end of the event.
