Heroes welcome for Paralympics gold winner Devendra Jhajharia, bronze medallist Varun Bhati

Indian Paralympians Devendra Jhajharia and Varun Singh Bhati returned to India from Rio early on 22 September.

Devendra Jhajharia won gold in the F46 Javelin throw event while Varun Singh Bhati won bronze in the T42 high jump.

The two athletes were warmly welcomed at the airport for their stellar performance at the Paralympics.

Jhajharia had previously won gold in 2004 Athens Paralympics. However, at this year's edition of the games he broke his own record to set a new world record of 63.97m in the javelin throw. Jhajharia has been awarded Rs 75 lakhs by the Rajasthan government for his feat.

Mariyappan Thengavellu won gold in T42 high jump and Deepa Malik won silver in F53 shot put event.
