Congress slams EC over Kolkata violence move: terms MCC as 'Modi Code of Misconduct'

The Election Commission has put curtain for poll campaigns in West Bengal from 10 pm on Thursday, following the violence that broke out at Amit Shah’s rally. Slamming poll body over his election campaign ban move, the Congress party called it 'toothless wonder'.

The grand old party called the poll body's move "an unpardonable betrayal of the constitution" and alleged that it had "become a pawn in the hands of the Modi-Shah duo."

“The Election Commission's decision on West Bengal is 'undemocratic', MCC is Modi Code of Misconduct,” alleges Congress.

Furthering adding to it, Congress party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, “Election Commission’s order is a parting gift to PM Modi & BJP, in order to ensure that the two pre-announced election rallies of Shri Modi today are not hit by the EC’s order. Does the EC now take orders from the BJP headquarters rather than from the mandate of the Constitution?”

Meanwhile, BSP chief Mayawati alleged that EC is acting under pressure, “The Election Commission has banned campaigning in West Bengal, but from 10 pm today just because the PM has two rallies in the day. If they had to ban then why not from today morning? This is unfair and EC is acting under pressure," she said.

"It is clear that PM Modi, Amit Shah and their leaders are targeting Mamata Banerjee, it's planned targeting. This is a very dangerous and unjust trend and one which doesn't suit the PM of the country," the former chief minister added.
