Watch: AB de Villiers plays marvellous knock in his debut match for Middlesex in T20 Blast

AB de Villiers made his debut in England’s T20 Blast and played a marvellous knock for Middlesex to help them win at Lord’s. Ab de Villiers scored a quick 88 runs off 43 balls and remained unbeaten to help his team defeat Essex by seven wickets.

This was Ab de Villiers’ first appearance in England’s domestic cricket. The South African batsman was last seen in the Indian Premier League representing Royal Challengers Bangalore.

AB de Villiers was recently caught up in controversy when South Africa lost three consecutive matches in the World Cup. It was being speculated that de Villiers wanted to join the World Cup squad but the captain Faf du Plessis and coach didn’t let it happen.

AB de Villiers made it clear after the World Cup was over that he did not want to force himself in the team he just made them aware that he is available for the team if needed.

Some people questioned his decision to play in different leagues around the world and said he retired early for money. “I retired for honest reasons and, when asked if I could be available for the World Cup, agreed to keep the door open. In the event, understandably, the team moved on. No problem. I am not angry with anybody,” AB de Villiers said in his statement.

“Some have insisted I was motivated purely by money. They are wrong. In truth, I have turned down many lucrative offers to play around the world, and have cut the time spent away from home each year from eight months to just over three months,” de Villiers added.
