Women completing 7 years in Indian Navy to get permanent commission

Speed News Desk | Updated on: 20 April 2016, 17:22 IST

The Indian Navy on Wednesday announced that women completing seven years in service will get permanent commission.

However, the decision has not been adopted completely. It is on an experimental basis for five years.

Media reports indicate that the Navy is the last of the three armed forces in India which has given a nod for a permanent commission to women.

The Indian Air Force was the first to allow women a combat role last year by declaring their induction in the combat stream.
