West Bengal: BJP activist shot dead in Bhatpara, day after post-poll clashes erupt across state

A BJP activist was allegedly shot dead in West Bengal’s Bhatpara area of North 24 Parganas district on Sunday night. This incident comes a day post-election clashes that broke out across the state.

According to reports, the victim identified as Chandan Shaw was shot at close range by four men who came on two motorbikes. They followed him when he was returning home at 10:30 pm.


Shaw was immediately rushed to the Bhatpara state general hospital where doctors declared he was brought dead. The assailants are yet to be identified.

Bengal has witnessed a huge heat of violence across the state post-election results were declared, killing one person in it. The post-poll results triggered a clash between the ruling Trinamool Congress and BJP. Security forces have been deployed in the area. The investigation has started.

Reportedly, on Saturday night, MP Smriti Irani’s close aide was shot dead by unknown assailants at his residence in Uttar Pradesh Amethi. The killer is on run and police have filed a case against 5 persons.
