Uttarakhand speaker issues notice to 9 rebel Congress lawmakers under anti-defection law

The nine rebel congress lawmakers have been issued show cause notice under anti-defection law by the Uttarakhand assembly speaker GS Kunjwal on Saturday. These lawmakers joined BJP legislators to tople the Harish Rawat government in the state when they went to meet the Governor on Friday.The speaker has given them time till March 26 to respond to the notice. The rebel lawmakers have been asked that why their Vidhan Sabha membership shoud not be terminated.Even though nine Congress lawmakers have joined their hands with 27 BJP legislators, the Chief Minister of the state Harish Rawat has claimed that there is no threat to his government.CM Rawat has been asked to prove majority on the floor of the house before March 28 by Governor KK Paul KK Paul on Saturday. Reportedly, 27 of BJP legislators along with nine Congress members staked claim to form government on Friday. The situation of nine Congress lawmakers backing the BJP legislators created political crisis in the state. Harak Singh Rawat, Amrita Rawat, Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion, Shaila Rani Rawat, Pradip Batra, Subodh Uniyal, Shailendra Mohan Singhal and Umesh Sharma are those nine rebel Congressmen who extended their support to BJP.
