At least eight people were killed after a landslide hit three vehicles, including two motorcycles and a car in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag.

Three people have been injured and two missing due to the landslide near Chandikadhar in Rudraprayag, ANI reported.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police have been deployed at the spot. The accident took place on Saturday night while these people were coming back from Kedarnath, an official said on Sunday.

The heavy boulder fell along with rubble of a landslide on the vehicles sweeping into 500-meter deep gorge.

As per the reports, five people died on the spot while three people succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Police have recovered four dead bodies from the debris. The boulder is hard and heavy rock cutting equipment is being used to break it to recover the fifth body.

Three victims have been identified, of whom one hailed from Rudraprayag and the two others from Rishikesh.

Governor Baby Rani Maurya and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat have expressed grief at the loss of lives in the accident.
