Bus falls in gorge in Uttarakhand

At least 12 people were killed and 14 injured when a bus fell into a 150 meter deep gorge in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, an official has said.

The private bus was on the way to Vikas Nagar from Jankichatti in the Uttarkashi, when accidentally it fell into a gorge near Damta, said Ashish Chauhan, District Magistrate.


10 people died on the spot and two of them died on the way to the hospital, the DM added.

Search operation is underway with the help of police and the local residents of the district, as the officials added that some bodies might be stuck in the bushes and it is important to look around the area.

The bus, which fell into the gorge, landed just near the Yamuna river, said the officials present at the spot.

Out of the 14 injured, 4 have received serious injury and have been taken in the helicopter to Dehradun, said the officer.
