Uphaar tragedy: Delhi court refuses to pass its order on police's plea

A Delhi court on Thursday refused to pass its order on police's plea demanding real estate tycoons Gopal Ansal and Sushil Ansal get judicial permission before leaving the country.

The Delhi Police made the demand a few days back.

The duo is also accused of tampering with evidence in the case, which is pending since 2006.

The apex court sentenced Gopal Ansal to one-year jail term on February 9, where on the other hand, elder brother Sushil was ordered to skip prison term citing old age and ill-health.

At least 59 people died of asphyxia and over 100 others were injured in the stampede after fire broke out in Uphaar cinema on June 13, 1997, during the screening of J.P. Dutta's film "Border".
