UP govt to probe land allotment to Jaypee group over illegal mining charges

News Agencies | Updated on: 11 February 2017, 5:48 IST

The Jaypee Group has courted controversy in Uttar Pradesh over claims that the company has been engaging in illegal mining in the area. To further investigate these claims, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up a committee to probe the allotment of 25,000 acres of land to the Jaypee Group for the setting up a cement factory in the Sonbhadra district.

The committee will submit its report within a month.

Last week, the state government took back the allotted land from the real estate group after Uttar Pradesh Forest Department raised objection over the land allotment - claiming that the company was carrying out illegal mining in the region.

The matter was taken up in Supreme Court and a reply was sought from the UP government on the matter.

The real estate group is already facing heat over the delayed possession of apartments in its housing projects spread across Noida and Greater Noida.
