Thousands of litres of water used for Akhilesh Yadav's visit to drought-hit Bundelkhand

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's visit to Bundelkhand has sparked a fresh controversy as, reportedly, thousands of litres of water were used to ensure a dust-free makeshift helipad. It has led to public outrage as Bundelkhand is witnessing a drought, currently.

Harish Kapur, leader of local outfit Bundelkhand Vikas Sena said, "Strong action should be taken against the authorities responsible for the massive wastage of scarce water."

The CM had visited Lalitpur on Tuesday to review the drought situation and provide relief measures. Lalitpur is part of the Bundelkhand region, which lies half in Uttar Pradesh and half in Madhya Pradesh and is reeling under a severe water crisis.

SP Mohammed Imran said the water used for the helipad was not fit for drinking, justifying the development. He said that there can be no compromise on the issue of the CM's security.

This comes after Maharashtra's agricultural minister Eknath Khadse courted controversy recently for travelling to Latur in a helicopter leading to the wastage of 10,000 litres of water which were used to water a makeshift helipad.
