As Mehbooba Mufti was sworn in as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to congratulate her and all those who took oath on Monday.

He motivated the newly formed cabinet to take Jammu and Kashmir to new heights and accomplish the aspirations and desires of the people of the state.

"Congratulations and best wishes to Mehbooba Mufti, Dr Nirmal Singh and all those who took oath today. May the new government of J&K leave no stone unturned in fulfilling dreams and aspirations of the people and take J&K to new heights of progress," Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet.

Mehbooba Mufti, chief of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took oath this morning as the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. She succeeds her father, the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who passed away in January this year.

At least 23 ministers took oath, along with Mehbooba Mufti, including members of the BJP. The tate election in December 2014 gave no party a majority in the 70-member J&K Assembly. The PDP, with 28 seats and the BJP with 25 had formed the government after weeks of hard negotiations in 2015.
