News Agencies | Updated on: 10 February 2017, 1:50 IST

The special CBI court today granted bail to suspended Home Ministry Under Secretary Anand Joshi, who has been arrested on charges of issuing Foreign Contribution Regulation Act ( FCRA) notices arbitrarily to NGOs for financial gain.

On 24 May, Joshi was sent to judicial custody till 6 June.

The CBI, which began scrutinising various files related to the MHA Under Secretary on 17 May, told the court that they found 14 files, of which seven were seized.

Joshi fled after corruption charges were slapped on him, but was arrested earlier this month and sent to CBI custody.

The CBI is scanning email correspondences that Joshi had with representatives of NGOs and also looking into properties which are in his wife's name.

Joshi, who was found hiding at a relative's residence in Tilak Nagar, had left home in Indirapuram to evade questioning by the CBI on 11 May, leaving behind a letter in which he claimed he was subjected to mental harassment.
