Surat Fire Tragedy: Most students who died in coaching centre fire, were awaiting Class XII Board results today

At least 20 students were killed and several were injured after a major fire broke out at the Takshashila Arcade building in the Sarthana area on Friday evening.

The video of the horrific incident showed how students of the coaching center on the top floor of the building jumped off the building to save their lives from the dreadful fire.


Amidst the chaos, most of the students were waiting for their Class 12th board exam results which are likely to be released on Saturday.

As per the reports, most of the students killed in the fire were attending the coaching classes.

A girl named Yashvi called her father, Dinesh Kevadia at around 5:30 pm and told him about a fire in the building where she was attending the classes for fashion design. All of sudden, her phone got switched off.

Reportedly, Yashvi named is listed among other ‘missing’ people, hours after the fire doused. Likewise, Yashvi, there were several other students who were waiting for their results.

Later, Police have recovered the body of Yashvi, class 12th Commerce student inside the building.

According to Yashvi’s father, ‘She called me at 5:30 pm. telling me about the fire. After that, when we tried to reach her, her phone was switched off. She was expecting her board results and wanted to become a fashion designer.’

Her brother also said that they will register a case against the Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (DGVCL) as the fire broke out from the distribution panel, indianexpress.com reports said.

As per the officials, students who were killed in the fire, eleven of them were teenagers, died due to burn injuries. Out of the total students who were killed in the fire, nine were girls. While three (Khushali Kiritbhai Kokadiya (17), Krishna Sureshbhai Bhekariya (21) and Rutu Ishwarbhai Doda, 18) died when they were jumped off the building to escape the blaze.

 

Meanwhile, Surat Police filed an FIR agaist three people including builders of the complex- Harshal Vekaria and Jignesh and the owner of the coaching centre Bhargav Bhutani.
