Supreme Court agrees to hear review petition for 2013 judgement on NEET

News Agencies | Updated on: 11 February 2017, 5:48 IST

On 11 April, the Supreme Court agreed to hear the petition filed by the Centre and Medical Council of India ( MCI), seeking review of its judgement scrapping the single common entrance test, National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to MBBS, BDS and post-graduate courses in all medical colleges.

The bench headed by the then Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir had in 2013 set aside the NEET and allowed private medical colleges and state government colleges to hold separate entrance tests.

The 2013 judgement had declared that conducting a common entrance test is ultra vires the Constitution.
