Strict action will be taken against those responsible for SUM hospital fire: Naveen Patnaik

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on 19 October, said stringent action will be taken against those responsible for the SUM hospital fire tragedy in which 21 people died and many others were injured.

Patnaik, who reached New Delhi today evening to attend a function tomorrow, told reporters in the national capital that the state government has already ordered the revenue divisional commissioner (RDC), central, to inquire into the matter.

The police have so far arrested four senior officials of the said hospital on the basis of the FIR filed by the fire service department, the chief minister said, adding, "Stringent action will be taken against those found guilty in the incident."

Patnaik's statement came on a day when Union Health Minister JP Nadda asked Odisha government to ensure that the guilty persons in the hospital fire case do not go "scot-free".

Nadda, along with Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, was there to take stock of the situation after the tragedy on Monday.
