A station house officer (SHO) of Sam police station in Jaisalmer district was suspended for dereliction of duty after a man died during a clash between two groups, police said today.

Khanu Khan, 30, was beaten in a clash between two groups of a family on Wednesday in Faledi village and he died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jodhpur, police said.

Jaisalmer Mangilal Rathore said that SHO Mahesh Kumar was yesterday suspended for dereliction of duty in handling the case.

"Prior to the clash, members of both the groups had lodged a complaint with the police which was not dealt with effectively, the DSP said.

He said the groups had a rivalry over some domestic issues. Seven people were arrested yesterday in connection with the case, he added.
