SC asks former Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy to face trial in land allotment case

The Supreme Court today set aside the 2011 Karnataka High Court's ruling quashing criminal proceedings against HD Kumaraswamy and wife in a bulk land allotment case and asked the former chief minister to face trial in the case.

A division bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi, passed the order after hearing a petition from one Vinod Kumar.

Kumar, in his petition, alleged that the case against Kumarswamy and his wife was related to bulk allotment of land made to a cooperative housing society while he was the Karnataka chief minister, in which his wife was also one of the beneficiaries in the case.

The top court also ordered Kumaraswamy's wife to face trial in the case.

The case pertains to the allotment of 80 acres of land and allowing a company to lift 1 lakh tonne of iron ore.
