Taking a jibe at the ruling Modi government, for not being able to maintain a strong Rupee, the Congress on 24 August said the national currency has seen its steepest fall in the last one year, and has passed the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister's age.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told ANIhere, "PM Modi had promised that rupee will trade at 40 per US dollar. Unfortunately, I want to ask Modi ji that the rupee is trading 66.43 per US dollar. It has passed the Prime Minister's age, it has passed the Finance Minister's age, will it now touch L.K. Advani's age? This nation wants to know from the Government."

"Today the stock market has crashed and base metals are down, core sector of manufacturing are down and to blame it on global recession or the Chinese economy is meaningless. The Indian economy has remain insulated from global recession during the Manmohan Singh Government," Surjewala claimed.
