Rajasthan's Commission for Women member Somya Gurjar, who clicked a selfie with an alleged rape victim, resigned on 30 June after the move courted controversy prompting the chairperson of the commission to seek a written explanation.

Photos of Somya Gurjar clicking a selfie with an alleged rape victim had gone viral.

Interestingly, the Commission chairperson, Suman Sharma, can also be seen in the selfie along with Somya Gurjar, who clicked the selfie. The photographs were allegedly taken on 29 June, when Gurjar and Sharma went to meet the alleged rape survivor in the Mahila police station (Jaipur North).

The victim has alleged that she was raped by her husband and his brothers after she failed to meet their dowry demands. The woman, who hails from Alwar, has alleged that her husband's family assaulted her and tattooed expletives on her forehead and hand.
