Hailing Haryana as the land whose daughters made India proud on several occasions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 1 November, asserted that female foeticide cannot exist in such a distinguished state.

PM Modi also called on the people of the state to make a pledge to protect the girl child.

Speaking at the Haryana Swarna Jayanti Utsav celebrations, the PM said that even though Haryana is a relatively small state, it has contributed in so many areas.

"It is believed that Haryana has only farmers but see the exemplary success of businessmen from Haryana. People of Haryana have given their lives for the nation by serving in the armed forces. In such a distinguished state, female foeticide cannot exist. Haryana has undertaken an effort to ensure female foeticide doesn't happen," said PM Modi.

Expressing his desire to make Haryana an Open Defecation Free state in this golden jubilee year, he further hoped that when the process of transformation begins in villages, the development of Haryana will receive an impetus.
