PM Modi congratulates Indian Navy on successful Antiship missile launch

The Indian Navy on 2 March,2017 morning successfully conducted the maiden firing of an AntiShip missile from first of the indigenously built Kalvari class submarines, during test firing in the Arabian Sea.

According to reports, the missile successfully hit a surface target at extended ranges.

The development is expected to enhance the Indian Navy's sub-surface warfare capability.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the nation's defence scientists for the successful testing of missile. He tweeted, "Hearty congratulations to our defence scientists for the successful demonstration of ballistic missile defence capability. With this, India joins the select group of five nations with such capability- a proud moment for the entire country."

In India, all six Kalvari class submarines will be equipped with this AntiShip missile, which also has a proven record in combat.
