PM Modi calls Swamy's attack on Raghuram Rajan 'inappropriate', says no one is above the system

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has broken his silence on the fiasco surrounding the exit of RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan.

In an interview with Times Now, PM Modi said that he had enjoyed a good working relationship with Rajan and asserted that he was certain that the RBI chief would continue to serve India irrespective of where he was working.

When asked to react to the comments of his Rajya Sabha MP on Rajan, PM Modi said that no one is above the system.

Without taking any names, PM Modi said: "Whether it is in my party or not, still I think such things are inappropriate. This fondness for publicity is never going to do any good to the nation. People should conduct themselves with utmost responsibility. If anybody considers himself above the system, it is wrong".

The PM's comments assume significance in the context of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and the BJP distancing themselves from Swamy's recent attacks on Rajan, CEA Arvind Subramananian and Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das.
