Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), some of whom are members of the union cabinet, joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi in wishing veteran party leader Lal Krishna Advani on his 89th birthday on Sunday.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in a tweet said, "Greetings to our beloved leader Shri Lal Krishna Advaniji on his 89th birthday today. May God bless him with good health and long life."

Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad in his tweet said, "Wishing the former Deputy PM of India & our guiding light respected Shri Lal Krishna Advani Ji a very Happy Birthday."

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Advani on his birthday, saying the latter's contribution to the country was invaluable and he has always been respected as a person of immense knowledge and integrity.

"Warmest birthday greetings to our guide and inspiration, the respected Shri LK Advani ji. I wish him a long life filled with best health. Advani ji's contribution to the country is invaluable. He has always been respected as a person of immense knowledge and integrity," the Prime Minister tweeted.

The Prime Minister added that he had 'personally' learnt so much from the veteran BJP leader and that he was the best teacher for 'karyakartas' and remained an epitome of selfless service.
