Odisha: 23 Maoists killed as security personnel attack Maoist camp in Malkangiri

Twenty three Maoists were reportedly killed in an encounter on 24 October in an encounter with Andhra-Odisha Police in Malkangiri district of Odisha.

According to reports, two police personnel, including the assault commander of Greyhound team, have been seriously injured. Choppers have been sent to airlift the injured constables of the Greyhound.

Reports suggest that the police attacked the Maoist camp in a joint operation in the Malkangiri district, where more than 50 Maoists had reportedly gathered to attend an important meet.

A huge cache of ammunition and weapons, including four AK-47, 3 SLR and ten 303 rifles has been retrieved from the encounter spot. The Malkangiri district police have said that a search and combing operation is still going on in the area and extra forces are being sent to the area to intensify the combing operation.

Today's encounter is the second biggest in Malkangiri district. In September 2013, in the Podia block of the district, thirteen Maoists were eliminated in an encounter with the police.
