Odisha: 13-year-old girl allegedly dragged to secluded place and raped by a man known to her; case registered under POCSO Act

A 13-year-old girl in Odisha’s Jajpur district was dragged to a secluded place, raped by a 26-year-old man. Then she was threatened of dire consequences if she reports to anyone. The police arrested the accused.

The incident took place at Nanpur village in Balichandrapur area on Friday night when the 13-year-old girl was coming back to home after attending a marriage procession, Inspector In-Charge of Balichandrapur police station Rakesh Chandra Tripathy said.


On the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s mother on Saturday, the accused who belongs to the same village, was arrested on Sunday.

When the accused found girl alone, he dragged the minor to a secluded place on the Birupa river bank and raped her. Having committed the crime, he threatened the victim of dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident and then fled the spot, said the police.
After returning home that night, she narrated the ordeal to her mother, who approached the police on Saturday.

The victim and accused’s medical examination was conducted by the police. The police charged the accused under relevant provisions of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act, the police said.
