General VK Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs informed Lok Sabha on 5 August that police verification will not be needed anymore to renew passports.
"For reissue of passports, police verification is not required, provided the first passport had been issued on the basis of clear police report," he said.
This move is going to help the citizens because it will cut down the time taken in passport renewal drastically. The process currently takes more than two weeks on an average.
