NCP endorses Jaitley's take on judiciary destroying legislative "brick by brick"

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday backed Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's remark that the judiciary has been encroaching on legislative and executive authority and said 'unnecessary' intervention of the courts in policy matters is unwarranted.

"To a great extent, I endorse what Arun Jaitley has said because we have observed for the past few years that courts are interfering into every aspect of human life. They are interfering in all policy matters. Nothing is left to the executive and to the legislator, they are helpless," NCP leader Majid Memon told ANI.

"Every time the judiciary imposes itself upon it probably forgetting that there are different compartments of democracy, legislature , executive and judiciary and all have to respect each other and coordinate and cooperate with each other rather than putting each other down. This is true that the judiciary is unnecessarily, unduly, unjustifiably interfering into policy matters," he added.

Jaitley while addressing the Upper House in the context of the GST Bill urged the lawmakers not to hand over budgetary and taxation powers to the court while asserting that the judiciary had been encroaching on legislative and executive authority.

"Step by step, brick by brick, the edifice of India's legislature is being destroyed," Jaitley said during a discussion on The Appropriation (No.2) Bill 2016 and the Finance Bill, 2016.
