News Agencies | Updated on: 9 June 2016, 11:21 IST

Naxals fired rockets and opened heavy gunfire at a camp of paramilitary personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh, on 9 June.

Officials said the attack was launched at the company base of the 41st battalion of the ITBP Force in Ranapal area after a large number of Maoists surrounded it from three sides.

"The attack was launched at about 00:40 hours and ended at 03:00 hours today. Four rockets were fired inside the camp. Both sides exchanged about 600 rounds of bullets," the officials said.

Naxals later retreated in the jungles and no casualties were reported on the ITBP's side.

"It is estimated that around 100 armed Naxals launched the attack," the officials added.

A search operation is currently under way.
