Mumbai: Shocking! 62-year-old man allegedly hit with a pressure cooker on the head, dies; son under suspicion

In a shocking incident, a 62-year-old man was allegedly hit with a pressure cooker on the head in Navi Mumbai's Koparkhairane area. The man succumbed to his injury, the police said.

The incident reportedly took place at around 2 pm at New Krishna Tower in Sector 14. The victim, Vijaykumar Dahotre, was found lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen of his fifth floor flat with a pressure cooker and a hammer on the spot.


According to Navi Mumbai Police, the victim’s 31-year-old son Nikhil, reportedly suffering from schizophrenia, was home at the time of the incident.

The son was found injuries to his hand and was rushed to a hospital, police added. "Vijaykumar Dohatre was found in a pool of blood with a head injury by neighbours who heard sounds of a scuffle from the house.

“There were only two people in the house at the time of the incident. We are in the process of gathering further evidence,” said Sudhakar Pathare, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai Police.

A pressure cooker and a hammer were found at the spot," said Sudhakar Pathate.

Police said that prima facie, the son's involvement is under suspicion, adding that a probe into the incident was underway. Police have registered a murder against an unidentified person. The police have registered an FIR against unknown person/s under sections 302 and 324 of the Indian Penal Code.
