As the 2019 Lok Sabha election is around the corner, Digvijay Singh would be contesting the polls from Bhopal after CM Kamal Nath’s toughest seat challenge.

He said you decide where should I contest from, so I decided. I said contest from Bhopal,” said Kamal Nath, after the announcement of Digvijay Singh as the candidate from Bhopal.

Bhopal is a high-profile seat which is currently held by BJP’s Alok Sanjhar, the Congress’ performance over the last three decades in Indore and Vidisha has been poor and inconsistent. Former President late Shankar Dayal Sharma was the last candidate who had won from the seat in the 1984 elections.

BJP, which has ruled the state since last 15 years under the leadership of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, had lost the Assembly election of 2018 to Congress after high anti-incumbency.

Now, the BJP has been vigorously campaigning in the state for the upcoming polls although the Union Minister Sushma Swaraj has declined to contest the polls this time around, who used to hold the Vidisha seat.

The BJP had won 27 of the 29 seats in the state in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, and Congress could win two, namely Chhindwara and Guna, held by Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia respectively.
