Five people have been detained in connection with Sunday's deadly inferno at the Puttingal temple in Kollam district in Kerala, which claimed the lives of at least 112 people.

"Five people have been detained in connection with the fireworks show," Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) TP Senkumar said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the incident asked that the state government submit a detailed report on the cause of the massive fire.

At least 112 people were charred to death and 350 when a massive fire broke out at the Puttingal temple in Paravur in Kollam district during a festival early on 10 April.

A preliminary police investigation has revealed that sparks from an ignited, high-intensity, pyrotechnic display spread to a storehouse (Kambapura) adjoining the temple, where a large cache of explosives was stored, resulting in a massive blast - the impact of which was reportedly felt over 1km radius of the temple.
